The legend
The barber who kept you thirsty
De Blonde Barbier is our blonde: three hops, a bolder sweetness than a lager and a bitter finish, 6,2%. It sits between the witbier and the tripel, and it is the house beer that goes with most of the card.
The name is a tale. The story goes that in the sixteenth century a blond barber-surgeon worked near here, cutting hair and pulling teeth, and that he told such stories while he worked that even the worst of them left you thirsty. The label gives him a name, Gerardus Franciscus Bickerszoon, and a chronicler, Cornelis Calcoen, who is said to have written his tales down. Nobody has found either of them in the archives. So he stays where he belongs: on the label, and in the glass.
What is not a tale is how it drinks with food from the grill: the spare ribs in our own marinade (€21,90), a beef burger with Flemish fries (€17,90), or a plate of bitterballen with mustard (8 for €8,50) with the first round.
